In mourning for the passing of Mr. Teijiro Furukawa, the chairman of MOCC

In the early morning of September 5, 2022, Mr. Teijiro Furukawa, the chairman of this organization, passed away.  He was 87 years old, however, I heard that he was fine until two days ago.  I feel deeply sympathy for the grief of his wife, his family, and those involved.  Regarding the “WHO GICC in Tokyo 2022” event scheduled on September 25, I asked for a greeting two weeks ago and just received his willing consent, so I was shocked by the sudden sad news.

I would like to thank Professor Furukawa for his efforts as the chairman of the organization since its establishment in 2013, and for the nine years until today.  I admire greatly his thoughtfulness and deep affection for children with childhood cancer.  Inheriting Dr. Furukawa’s strong will, we will continue to strive to build a society in which all children with cancer in Japan and Asia can receive accurate diagnoses and high-quality treatment and live a better life.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr. Teijiro Furukawa for his achievements and to offer my deepest condolences.
